Meat-cute postmortem

Have you ever summoned a demon by accident?

Meat-cute is finally finished after two months of hard work! It was a privilege working with such talented people. After spending so long looking at the game as just small parts that needed fixing, finally, being able to see it complete like this is such a warm feeling of accomplishment. There were some big hiccups along the way but that is to be expected and we were able to overcome them in the end. I wanted to wait a few days before writing this post mortem in case some things just fell through but they didn’t so it’s time to celebrate we finished this project!

About development

Originally, I must admit I didn’t have a clear idea in mind of how I wanted the story to go. I struggled until the day before the script deadline with lots of things, especially the structure. I had so many drafts that will never see the light of day. Some were more explicit about the murder and clean up, some were more somber in tone and some were just strange. It also took me a while to get the girl’s personality straight.

Asmodea (the demon) was the hardest. How does a demon talk? Do they talk in old English looking down on mortals or would it be funnier if she talked like a preppy girl?

Writing the script was an adventure on its own, but all things considered I’m happy with the final result. It is my first time writing something of this length and in this genre so all and all it’s been interesting.

Funny enough things started to go array very quickly after the first two weeks? We had the script, sketches for the girls and the GUI. Everything seemed fine but as soon as we started coding things just didn’t seem to work, I will not bore you with minor technical details of everything that happened.

What I will say is that /diamondblockhouse was the true MVP of this project, I asked them to join us pretty late into the project to help with something different. But we were struggling a lot and they stepped up at the last minute, turning what was originally a half baked project into the game you can play right now.

What happens next?

I admit it’s hard to tell right now, I do like the girls as characters and it would be fun to see them again in other games. I do think Mary (the killer) would be much easier to include in certain games I have planned. For the time being this is the end of their story but maybe in the future I’d love to revisit it.

About translations

For the time being I have no plans for it but it would be really nice to do. I’ve been thinking of doing a Spanish translation myself but probably in the future.
